Angelica pubescens (Du Huo) INTERACTION WITH WARFARIN |
||
| Angelica pubescens is used
to treat arthritis, lumbago, edema, headache,
thrombosis and stasis of blood. It contains osthole, which was found to
inhibit platelet aggregation and thromboxane formation in rabbit
platelets; it was also found to suppress phosphoinositide breakdown.
Thromboxane A2 is instrumental in platelet aggregation. Phosphoinositide
breakdown provides necessary free arachadonate for thromboxane A2
synthesis. Because of these mechanisms, concurrent intake with warfarin
(Coumadin, Jantoven)
may result in increased risk of bleeding.
