CHLORAL HYDRATE INTERACTIONS WITH WARFARIN (Coumadin, Jantoven) |
||
| Brand Name: Aquachloral
Please note that this report is from an experiment and not an actual case. Also the work was done more than 25 years ago. However, chloral hydrate is used even less than it was back then, so I believe that the conclusion is valid. Udall tested 16 people with this combination. It was determined that there is an interaction between warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) and chloral hydrate, but that it was not significant in actual practice. Reference: Udall JA. Clinical implications of warfarin interactions with five sedatives. Am J Cardiol 1975;35:67-71. In today's practice, chloral hydrate is rarely used on a long-term basis. There should be no significance in giving single doses of chloral hydrate (such as before a diagnostic procedure) to someone who is taking warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven).
