CHLORAMPHENICOL INTERACTIONS WITH WARFARIN (Coumadin, Jantoven) |
||
|
Brand Names: Chloromycetin, Ak-Chlor, Chloroptic Since these two medications have each been on the market for more than 50 years, and there is practically nothing written about interactions, I think it is safe to say that there is very little chance of anything occurring. There was one report published in 1999 of a probable interaction when chloramphenicol was administered as eye drops. The elderly patient's INR rose to 8.9 shortly after they eye drops were started and decreased when they were stopped. The authors recommend careful monitoring whenever chloramphenicol is added or stopped. However, this seems like a large expense for such an infrequent interaction. To me, it seems more logical to consider this as a possible cause if the INR is suddenly out of range. The journal that printed this is well known for printing articles about potential interactions that are never reported anywhere else. Reference: Leone R.
