CHLORDIAZEOPXIDE INTERACTIONS WITH WARFARIN (Coumadin, Jantoven) |
||
| Brand Names: Librium,
Mitran, Reposans-10, Libritabs, Librax, Limbitrol
In a 1994 review article, Wells et al determined that if chlordiazepoxide was added to warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven), then the patient's INR was likely to decrease. This means that more warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) would need to be taken in order to maintain the same INR. Therefore, if this is done, the INR should be monitored about one week after the chlordiazepoxide is started. The opposite is likely true. If someone is taking the combination of warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) and chlordiazeopxide, and stops the chlordiazepoxide, the the INR will likely rise. This would result in needing less warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) to maintain the same INR. However, if someone has been taking chlordiazepoxide long enough for this interaction to have occurred, then it is going to be very difficult for them to stop chlordiazepoxide "cold turkey". The INR would need to be monitored carefully while they are being withdrawn from the chlordiazepoxide. Reference: Wells PS et al. Interactions of warfarin with drugs and food.
