CLOFIBRATE INTERACTIONS WITH WARFARIN (Coumadin, Jantoven)

Brand Name: Atromid-S

This is a lipid-lowering drug which is no longer widely used in the United States.

THERE IS A REPORT OF A FATAL INTERACTION INVOLVING THIS COMBINATION OF MEDICATIONS

The report is from many years ago and is in a journal that is not widely circulated, therefore I have not read the report.

If this combination were to be used, it should be done so with caution and after safer possibilities have been eliminated.  The INR should be monitored carefully until it is stable.  I would think that the monitoring should be done about 3 to 5 days after the combination is started and then as often as needed until there is no change in the warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven) dose or INR over a two-week period.
