There are two articles from the 1970s which showed that theoretically this drug could interact with warfarin to raise the INR. Naproxen belongs to a class of drugs called NSAIDS. Some members of this class, ibuprofen in particular, are notorious for causing bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. If this happens when you are taking warfarin, the bleeding could be severe. Despite this, there has never been an article in a peer-reviewed medical journal indexed by the United States National Library of Medicine that detailed anyone being harmed by this combination. Do not interpret this to mean that the combination is safe. It means that if you decide to take the combination, you may be making medical history. However, if you have details of anyone being harmed by this combination, I would like to know about it. I'm not interested in a minor bloody nose, or an INR that went up without anything happening. I'm interested in an incident that caused admission to a hospital that required two or more units of blood -- this is a generally accepted definition of a serious incident. If you have one, please write to me with the INR, site of bleeding, and how many units of blood were required. If you give permission, I will add it to this web page with or without your name.
