THE INTERACTION BETWEEN ROSUVASTATIN AND WARFARIN
Brand Name: Crestor
The AstraZeneca information for Crestor says that this might happen. However, this is a new drug and there are no actual case reports in the medical literature, so this is a first.
10-31 a man on warfarin started Crestor. He is not my patient but a friend who self tests, so I don't know the INR that day.
11-2 INR was 2.5, kept the same warfarin dose.
11-19 INR was 4.6. He is reducing the warfarin dose.
Looks like it will be a good idea to check the INR about 1 week after someone on warfarin starts rosuvastatin. However, it has been more than one year since I received this report and there are no more listed in the medical literature, so I think that this must be a fairly rare occurrence.
