SULFINPYRAZONE INTERACTIONS WITH WARFARIN

Please note that this interaction report is based on a test of six normal subjects and not from an actual case of persons taking this combination for treatment. This does not make it less valid. In fact, if it occurred in healthy test subjects, it may be more likely to happen in people with chronic conditions. Fortunately, sulfinpyrazone is not much used any more.
People taking warfarin who add sulfinpyrazone to their medications can expect to have their warfarin dose lowered.
The experiment did not report on what happened when people were taking warfarin and sulfinpyrazone and had the sulfinpyrazone discontinued. However, it would seem wise to monitor the INR closely in this case, since it is likely that the dose of warfarin would need to be increased.
Editor's Note: It has been eighteen years since this article was published and there are no reports, as of November 2004, of anyone suffering any harm from this interaction.
