THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION

Prior to having a mitral valve replacement, I took Alpha Lipoic Acid to relieve some of the symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy. I have now been advised by the Anticoagulation Clinic that I should not take this any longer. What is your opinion?  Mac

The only thing that I can find is that there is a potential interaction.  When this is all of the information that I can find and one of my patients wants to try something my instructions are to start it about 5 to 7 days before the next INR check.  This should give time enough for an interaction to occur yet not reach the magnitude that is likely to cause harm.
